Lynn Modallal is a Beirut-based visual artist, curator, and art dealer holding a BA in Filmmaking and an MA in International Curatorial Studies. Her diverse professional journey includes volunteering in film festivals, working as a researcher and serving as a segment director on International TV shows.
Modallal's curation and art dealing extends to exhibitions for artists and collectives such as Sleeping with the Enemy Productions, founded by renowned artists Semaan Khawam and Fadi ElChamaa. Since 2019, she has curated more than 10 exhibitions between 2019 and 2022 in Beirut and Paris, and collaborated with art dealers in Dubai. Notably, this includes Sleeping with the Enemy Productions and co-founding the Pop Up Art Gallery. This initiative showcased the works of over 35 emerging visual artists across Beirut, the UAE, and Europe.
In June 2023 she moderated and organized a panel about the Cultural Scene in Lebanon in collaboration with Goethe Institute. Drawing from a decade of collaboration with multidisciplinary artists, she inaugurated the Lynn Modallal Gallery in May 2023. This platform is dedicated to promoting new multidisciplinary art by both emerging and established artists.
In addition to her curatorial journey, Modallal ventured into stand-up comedy and acting in 2022.
Coming from an audiovisual background, Modallal’s sole focus is to create an inclusive and inventive space for all community members, presenting thought-provoking audiovisual exhibitions.
Statement
As a storyteller, my passion lies in bringing together diverse voices and perspectives to create engaging and thought-provoking audiovisual exhibitions. At the heart of my work is a commitment to promoting innovation, diversity, and a high quality curatorial program.
My approach to curating is collaborative and process-driven. I believe that art has the power to provoke critical thinking, challenge assumptions, and inspire action.
Through my exhibitions, I aim to create a space where visitors can engage with new ideas, and experience the transformative power of art. I believe that art can serve as a catalyst for social change, and I seek to provide a platform for innovative and hardworking multidisciplinary artists whose audiovisual work inspire us with outside-of-the-box ideas and introduce us to new artistic techniques and mediums.
